PGA Tour leaderboard LIVE: Tiger Woods two shots off pace at Valspar, Rory McIlroy falters

Woods is playing the Valspar Championship for the first time and plays with Jordan Spieth and Henrik Stenson for the first two rounds.

Rory McIlroy is also involved and hoping to get back up to speed after a disappointing Honda Classic.

Neither played in Mexico as Phil Mickelson won for the first time in five years but will be hope to be well up the leaderboard as the week goes on.

“I thought it was great,” said Woods of Mickelson’s victory.

”Phil has been playing well. He played well at the end of last year and got off to a great start this year. He’s been in contention a few times.

“What he did on Sunday was very, very cool to watch. It was a big putt at 16 down the hill just to tie Justin in the clubhouse, which gave him two free holes to win the golf tournament.

“Then he put the pressure on Justin in the play-off, put it right there pin high and hit a beautiful putt.”
